26th March Sensex 131 points down and nifty 48 points down

Sensex, Nifty ended in the red amid volatile day of trade. Small-cap Index outperformed all other major indices. Sensex ended was down 131 pts at 16087. Nifty was down 48 pts at 4829.

CNX Midcap Index was up 0.745, BSE Small-cap Index up 2.12%. Index Gainers were stocks like Tata Steel up 3.4%, Idea up 3.3%, HDFC up 2.9%. Index Losers were stocks like Nalco down 5.5%, HUL, ICICI Bank down 4%, Bharti down 3.6%. Realty & IT stocks gained the most. Realty stocks like Purvanakara was up 22%, Orbit was up 20%, IBREL was up 10%. Midcap IT stocks like KPIT Cummins up 22%, Mastek up 14.5%, Firstsource up 10.5%. Other gainers were stocks like Guj NRE Coke up 10.8%, Yes Bank up 13%, GHCL up 13%, India Infoline up 9.2%. NSE Advance Decline at 2:1. Total market turnover at Rs 76198.44 Crore.

Market News:

Edible oils maker K S Oils gained 0.78% to Rs 64.85 after the company said it has acquired a single palm plantation over a vast area spread across 50,000 acres of green land in Indonesia.

Diesel engines maker Kirloskar Oil Engines jumped 5.55% to Rs 105.60 after three block deals aggregating 30.99 lakh shares were executed on the counter at an average price of Rs 100.03 per share in opening trade on BSE.

Private sector lender Axis Bank vaulted 4.34% to Rs 826.50 after a two block deals totaling 45.46 lakh shares were struck on the counter at average price of Rs 799.89 per share on BSE. Garment manufacturer SEL Manufacturing Company rose 5% to Rs 276.05 after the company said its board has approved raising upto $250 million through issue of foreign currency convertible bonds and global depository receipts.

Engineering firm GEI Industrial Systems soared 10.85% to Rs 71.50 after the company said it has bagged an order worth Rs 30 crore from Essar Construction for supply of air cooled heat exchangers for a project in Gujarat.

Avantel Softech surged 9.41% to Rs 59 after the company said it has bagged an order worth Rs 8.25 crore from the Government of India for supply of satellite communication receiver terminals for Indian Navy

Shipping firm Mercator Lines rose 6.59% to Rs 76 after the company said its subsidiary Mercator Lines, Singapore has entered into negotiation with Refined Success for the time charter-out of Geastiniono TBN, a gearless panamax vessel.

Asian markets ended frim amid volatile day of trade. Shanghai, Thailand was down over 0.5%; Taiwan, Nikkei was down 0.3%
Jakarta, Hang Seng, was up over 0.5%. Dollar's had fallen back through the 100 yen mark revived concerns about export earnings. Japan's export growth unexpectedly went up by 8.7% in Feburary vs 7.6% in January. Oppenheimer & Co did cut Citigroup & other U.S. bank's 1Q EPS estimate.
Deutsche Bank
Deutsche Bank said that it was harder to reach a full-year profit forecast. Near-term outlook continues to be "very challenging".
Taiwan Flows
Taiwan: FIIs net buy equities worth $ 38 m in today’s trade (Prov). FIIs bought equities worth $ 3.14 bn m in last 3 trading sessions. Opposition’s leader won presidential election, boosted prospects of improved trade with China.

Durable Goods Order, New Home Sales Feb existing home sales unexpectedly rose, home prices fell 11.4% in January, their worst performance ever, Weekly energy inventories numbers.
